Rituals[]
In Season 2, the Kenseys demonstrate several new rituals:
- The victim is hit on the head with a ceremonial hammer, acting as the "mineshaft". Hopefully blood is drawn, representing "the sacred coal, in liquid form. The blood of the Petropater."[1]
- A sacrifice's stomach is cut open with a knife in a square shape. Then the skin and flesh is discarded, and coals are shoveled in (or placed in with tongs). If done correctly, a "miracle" occurs: the sacrifice is Hallowed, their skin hardens, and they turn to coal. They remain alive, in pain and brittle, until they are jostled enough to crumble or turn to ash.[1]
